有这样一个故事：两个男孩在穿越一块田地时，发现地上有些掉落的玉米种子。
他们各自捡了一颗回家，并把种子埋进土里。
第二天，第一个男孩看到种子还没发芽，他就把种子挖出来，看它是否已经长出芽来。
他每天都要把种子挖出来，再种下去，然而种子仍然不发芽。
其实这颗种子已经开始发芽，但这个男孩没有让它接触土壤，这颗种子无法生根发芽，吸收不到养分，最后死了。
第二个男孩种下他的那颗种子，便让它自己生长。
他想象着他种的那颗种子长成一棵高大挺拔的玉米。
他耐心地等着，无论是下雨，还是温和的阳光洒满大地。
十天过去了，一株幼嫩的小苗从土里出来，向天空伸展着它卷曲的叶子。
